FRENCH DEEP PINK FOUNT & SHADE. + WHITE MARBLE & SPELTER. This listing is for the complete banquet lamp which is in excellent condition. This moulded fount has several unbroken air bubbles and a spattering of inclusions by way of tiny dark/black specks throughout the glass.
The glass has good depth of colour with an even glossy finish and little or no signs of wear or use by way of scratches, scuffs etc. The deep clean external quilting refracts the light adding another dimension. The colour of this fount is unusual and as with a lot of French glass it does have a tendency to change under different light. Although the photos show this as pink pink it is actually, in some light, more cranberry pink.
The collar is in excellent condition with no splits, cracks etc. And little or no signs of wear. The French collar will take a British Duplex/double wick burner if this is your preference. The under mount has been re-affixed. The high quality 15''' Hugo Schneider burner with flame spreader and shade gallery are in excellent condition. The wick winder moves freely and has no excess movement. All chimney prongs are present and undamaged. This is quite a substantial lamp which accommodates this size burner without any problems and offers the benefit of providing far more light than a standard 14''' Kosmos. I have not polished the brassware as, in my opinion, the aged brass ties in better with the base. A good polish will change the optics. The Matador chimney is in excellent condition and without chips cracks or flea bites to either rim. This base is very heavy and has a good centre of gravity providing stability to this banquet lamp. The cast slug/weight is in excellent condition.
The spelter components are in excellent condition although the foot does have a small hole which would have occurred at the time of manufacture. This is not particularly noticeable. The original old gold finish was tired so it has been refinished in a gold which is very close to the original. If this finish is not to your liking it can be repainted to suit your décor and/or preference. The marble column is in very good to excellent condition - no cracks, scuffs or fading from UV exposure - with a good even gloss finish. There is a small area above one of the brass embellishments which has been filled. This British shade is in immaculate condition and I suspect that it is a bucket shade originally used on a hanging gas/oil lamp as this would explain its condition.
The white glass wavy lines in the shade at certain angles have a 3D effect by way of an optic illusion that gives the impression that the shade is rippled. H 740 mm 29 (with chimney). W 175 mm 7 (base square). Please view the photos carefully as they form a major part of the description.
