Gorgeous late Victorian Art Nouveau / Jugendstil brass Ideal Brenner oil lamp with stunning moulded glass shade in the shape of flames. A complete Ideal Brenner 15 oil lamp, with glass chimney and opaque shade moulded as flames. The delicately ribbed body of the glass font is painted with gold flowers in a unique Art Nouveau (or Jugendstil, as it was made in Germany) design. The foot and column are moulded brass of Corinthian form.
For me, the standout part of this lamp is the shade - beautifully moulded opaque glass, made to mimic the flame within; and the chimney looks to be original. The wick raiser knob reads "Ideal Brenner 15" and the burner is inscribed "Importé d'Allemagne". I've not had it filled nor lit.
Everything appears to be in working order, but it will need a wick in order to light. The lamp is in fine used condition. The wick raiser knob works perfectly, but please note it extends a little long when pulled - as can be seen in photographs 5 and 6.
But when it is pushed into position, it stays there. Minor nicks to the neck and rim of the shade (photographed), and I can make out a small repair to the column (photographed).
But all told, a fine oil lamp which looks to be ready for use. Lamp is 67cm tall to the top of the chimney, and 46cm tall to the wick. Font diameter is approximately 16cm. This item is in the category "Collectables\Lamps, Lighting\Lamps".
